Photography

In 2006 I had the privilege of taking a summer photography course in London, UK. Prior to this course I had little knowledge of photography and knew nothing about developing my own film.

A friend lent me an old manual 35 mm Pentax camera that had been used as a prop from a past Halloween costume party. The camera was in rough shape, but I cleaned it up and off I went to class. The course was in black and white photography, everything having to be set manually along with the development of the film.

I entered the darkroom and I fell in love. I learned how to take my film from camera to the canister, mixing the chemicals needed to develop the negatives, drying the film and ultimately see how magical this process actually was.

That summer I wandered the streets of Europe capturing moments in times and was completely mesmerized by my collection of treasures.

I came back to the states, submitted some of my work, and even won an award. I will always look back on that time with such love.

Now I can appreciate the quote by Arthur Ashe, “Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome”.
